door bolts question
Door Hinge Bolt keeps Falling Out — How do i keep it in place?
I recently installed a new door onto my car….the car door requires two bolts that slide into place to keep the door attached to the frame of the car. The problem is the bottom bolt keeps sliding BACK UP (through the action of opening/shutting the door) which essentially detaches the bottom portion of the door.
Is there something i can do to this bolt to keep it in place. I was thinking of using Gorilla Glue (something strong) but noticed that this Bolt rotates in the direction of the door opening/closing and so that is out of the question. Maybe i should take a piece of wire and tie it to the head of the bolt and wind it around the hinge?!?
Why not just put in the proper hinge pins? They are like $10.
How do I create a multiple bolt door lock with one actuator?
I’m having trouble thinking through the mechanics of it. Using one actuator to move 4 bolts, one on each side of the door. I know safe doors and some regular doors now have this kind of lock, one handle moving four bolts, all in different directions. I can’t find a diagram of this type system on the web however. Any ideas on where to start looking? Thanks.
Real Quick:
Picture a piece of round plate about 6 inches in diameter. Welded around at 90 degree intervals is a piece of semicircular plate about 2 inches in diameter with a hole towards the top. The piece kind of looks like a flower with four peddles. Pin the very end of a rod or piece of flatbar (the bolt) to the semicircular pieces such that they form tangents to the main round piece. Place u shaped guides along the bolt, and two at the end which will be the lock. Put a knob inthe middle of the circular piece. When you turn the knob 30-45 degrees, the bolts will move out, guided by the u-shaped pieces and throw the bolts into place.
