Can you just buy shower knobs instead of the entire kit?
I was trying to tighten up my hot water knob in my shower (I have a hot water knob, a knob to turn on the shower, and a cold water knob) and I think I broke it. I can’t stop the drip that I was trying to stop and I can’t turn the hot water on. The knob just spins around when I try to turn it, and little bits of metal dust I guess came out, like I wore off the treads of the screw or something. Is there a way to just replace the hot water knob or do I have to go buy an entire kit (from looking online they seem to be sold with all 3 knobs and then a tub faucet)? Please only answer if you know. Thanks. Oh, and if you can buy them individually, some examples of stores to try or links to their sites would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
This sounds like a Price Piaster fixture. You have a hot cold and a diverter valve. The little chrome buttons in the center of the knob pry off then you will find a screw that holds the knob in place.After you remove the knobs you can unscrew the chrome trim rings off the stem. After you remove the trim pieces you can remove the stem . This requires a special tool that can be purchased at your local hardware store. When you remove the stems be sure and take it with you so it can be matched. The seats are probably OK but if not they can be replaced as well. Again this requires a special tool .
This sounds difficult but it is not. cheaper than replacing the fixture .Before you start turn the water off to your house and drain the pipes by opening a cold valve in the sink. Most DIY stores carry these parts you can buy a knob or the stems.

Removing shower knobs?
If I want to remover shower knobs, spout, etc, so I can tile the tub surround, is it necessary to shut off the water at the meter? I removed the cap and took the screw out, but now what do I do? Does the knob just pull straight out?
The handles should come straight off. They may be a bit sticky but they will come off. If all you do is take the handles off you shouldn’t have to turn the water off. But while you have it apart it would be a good time to replace the washers in the faucets, now you will have to turn off the water.
